Grey-Bruce health unit no longer providing details on confirmed cases

The health unit will only provide what the province is providing, which is approximate age, whether they are self-isolating or hospitalized, and if the virus likely is related to travel or close contact

Grey Bruce Health Unit has announced it will stop providing media releases and additional information on local COVID-19 cases outside of what the province is already providing.

There was a third confirmed case of COVID-19 in Grey Bruce this morning. The province reported it was a male in his 60s and he had recently travelled to India.

The health unit said the man is 61 and will not provide any other “identifying information” including what hospital did the testing, stating it could violate patient privacy.

“The Grey Bruce Health Unit is investigating any potential contacts this person may have had,” states a release from the health unit.

The man was hospitalized and has since been discharged and is in self-isolation.

“As we continue to see sporadic cases, the contact tracing and self-isolation of these individuals are effective to ensure a little likelihood of risk to the general public,” states the press release.

The health unit is still urging residents who have returned from international travel and become ill with respiratory symptoms to report their travel history to a health professional or an emergency room before visiting.
