On Friday, Sept. 23, Hospice Georgian Triangle raised a record amount of almost $400,000 supporting hospice palliative care at its 2022 Care Gala.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude,” said Care Gala event chair and foundation board member Paula Zubek. “A huge thank you to everyone who supported and championed the need for compassionate hospice palliative care in our community.”

Donations made by guests were matched up to $100,000 by Collingwood resident Ricki Thompson. The sold-out elegant evening, held at Blue Mountain Resort, attracted 300 guests and included a live auction, raffle and dancing to a live eight-piece band.

Each year Hospice Georgian Triangle supports hundreds of families living in Collingwood, Clearview Township, the Town of The Blue Mountains, and Wasaga Beach who need palliative care, bereavement counselling or pain management.

The local hospice would simply not exist without generous community support.

The government provides less than 50 per cent of the cost to operate Hospice Georgian Triangle and the services it provides to the community.

Sandra Sullivan, executive director of Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation, says, “We are incredibly appreciative to everyone who gave so generously. We are also extremely thankful to those that shared their personal experiences to showcase the impact of hospice care. And of course, we thank the sponsors of the event for their ongoing support.”

The platinum sponsor of the gala was Blue Mountain. Other sponsors included Susan McKenzie Hough, Coulter Dawe and Associates, Burgundy Asset Management Ltd., Royal LePage Locations North—Jane Moysey, Lorraine McDonald, Sheila Shepherd, RBC Wealth Management—Todd Christensen, Stone Project Management Ltd., Mike Jackson GMC Collingwood, Property Valet, Sensor Technology/Prasad Foundation and Fawcett Funeral Homes.

Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation needs donations from the southern Georgian Bay community to fund programming, especially grief and bereavement counselling, child support groups and pain and symptom management programs. For more information visit www.hgtfoundation.com or call 705-444-2555.
