Four new COVID cases in Collingwood today

The health unit reported 58 cases in the region today, and that includes two Clearview and one Wasaga Beach resident

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 58 new cases of COVID-19 in the region today. 

The health unit has also confirmed one more death today. A Midland woman over the age of 80 died after contracting COVID-19. Her case was linked to the current outbreak at Georgian Bay General Hospital. The hospital reported her death yesterday.

Included on the Dec. 17 list of new COVID-19 cases are four Collingwood residents, two Clearview residents, one Wasaga Beach resident, 11 Barrie residents, 11 Bradford West Gwillimbury residents, four Innisfil residents, two Midland residents, and one Orillia resident. 

The breakdown of cases provided by the health unit is as follows. All case transmissions are under investigation unless otherwise indicated: 

  • Collingwood (4): One person between 45 and 64 years old, a woman and a man between 65 and 79 years old and a woman over the age of 80. 
  • Clearview (2): one woman between 18 and 34 years old and one man between 35 and 44 years old. 
  • Wasaga Beach (1): one woman between 65 and 79 years old.
  • Barrie (11): One girl under 18, four women and three men between 18 and 34 years old, one man between 45 and 64 years old and a man and a woman between 65 and 79 years old.
  • Springwater (1): One man between 35 and 44 years old.
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (11): One girl under 18 whose case is linked to close contact. Two women and a man between 18 and 34 years old, one woman between 35 and 44 years old, three women and a man between 45 and 64 years old, one woman between 65 and 79 years old and a woman over the age of 80. 
  • Innisfil (4): One boy under 18, one man between 18 and 34 years old, and two men between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Orillia (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is linked to a congregate setting outbreak. 
  • Midland (2): One man between 45 and 64 years old and one woman between 65 and 79 years old. The woman's case is linked to an institutional outbreak.
  • Severn (1): One man between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Tiny (1): One woman over the age of 80 whose case is linked to an institutional outbreak. 
  • Tay (1): One man between 65 and 79 years old whose case is linked to an institutional outbreak. 
  • Penetanguishene (1): One individual between 45 and 64 years old whose case is linked to an institutional outbreak. 
  • Three cases are listed with location information still pending and there is one new case in Huntsville, three in Essa, and nine in new Tecumseth. 

The local health unit has now confirmed 2,840 cases of COVID-19 with 2,356 of those cases recovered and 58 cases ending in death. There are approximately 400 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, with the majority of those in Simcoe County.

There are at least 14 people from Simcoe County hospitalized. 

There have been 2,718 cases confirmed in just Simcoe County, with 2,251 of those now recovered and 56 deaths.

~ Nine cases were removed from the list on Dec. 17 including three from Barrie, two from Bradford, and one each from Midland, Tiny, and Orillia, as they were either re-assigned or did not meet case definition.
