Five large projects drive up building activity for May

Town issues permits for multiple residential units in four developments plus an industrial building.

Building permits and construction value are up significantly for May over last year with major permits being issued for four multi-unit developments and an industrial building.

The town issued permits for 11 detached dwellings for Grandview Homes (off Clark Street), 14 townhomes in the F.S. Collingwood development (Shipyards), 17 semi-detached and 14 townhomes for Royalton Homes (Balmoral Village on Black Ash Creek) and a 52-unit apartment building for Dunn Capital Corporation (corner of Peel and Collins Streets).

The town also issued a building permit to Georgian Bay Biomed Inc for an industrial building on Collingwood’s west end. Georgian Bay Biomed will be producing medical marijuana at the new facility soon to be built on the south side of Mountain Road next to the Agnora Glass facility.

There were 127 permits issued in May 2018 for a total construction value of $27,724,689. Last year in May there were 87 permits issued for a total construction value of $5,452,972.

Building permit fees collected by the town in May 2018 totalled $240,158.30 compared to $55,773 in May 2017.

This month there were 114 new dwelling units created, one demolition permit issued, seven sign permits issued, one septic permit issued, five heritage permits issued and 11 backflow permits issued.

The town collected $2.6 million in development charges, $253,744 for the education levy and $59,331 in Black Ash Creek development charges.
