End is nigh for 26-year-old playground

Have your say on what will replace the Sunset Point EnviroPark in this survey.

One of Collingwood’s oldest playgrounds is in its final days.

The EnviroPark at Sunset Point is one the list for replacement in the near future and town staff are seeking public input for what new play structure will take its place.

The EnviroPark was built in 1993 from wood and concrete. The structures follow a water protection and environmental theme, with a wooden ship and miniature models of municipal wastewater treatment infrastructure. The property is 2.33 hectares and is covered mostly in sand. The grounds no longer meet accessibility standards.

An online survey, which is open from now until March 22, put out by the town asks residents for their feedback on what types of structures should replace what exists now. The survey asks whether respondents think the new park should carry on the water and environmental protection theme, or should have a new theme. There’s also a question about whether or not the new park should have custom-made structures – at an added cost – or standard play structures.

The survey also asks whether or not residents would like to see a water feature at Sunset Park. There is currently a water play area planned for Harbourview Park (located behind McDonald's at the north end of Cedar Street).
