SPRINWATER TOWNSHIP - The Huronia West Community Street Team has been working closely with the Service de Police de la Ville de Mascouche in the Province of Quebec. On Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, the police in Mascouche conducted a warrant on a residence.

As a result of the warrant Agnes the Gibbon was located and has now been returned to the Elmvale Jungle Zoo. She is slowly being re-integrated back into the Zoo population.

Michel Persi from the Elmvale Jungle Zoo told the OPP, "We are happy to have Agnes home with her family. In the coming weeks, she will be slowly re-introduced to her cousins, Jasmine and Gracie, and reintegrated back into the zoo community.

To make this transition as stress free as possible, the zoo will remain closed for the remainder of the winter season. Agnes and the rest of the Elmvale Jungle Zoo family will be happy to see everybody in the spring of 2019!"

The Tortoise named Stanley remains outstanding. If you have information regarding this case please contact the Huronia West OPP Detachment at 705-429-3575 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can submit your information online.

Earlier story:

Between May 28, 2018 and May 29, 2018 suspects entered the Elmvale Jungle Zoo and stole three animals; an 18-inch tortoise, a black and white Lemur and a black Gibbon monkey.

Two male suspects were identified, arrested and charged with the break, enter and theft of the animals:

  • Alex Pearlmutter (age 22) of Sunderland, Ont.
  • Adrian Frei (age 21) of East Gwillimbury, Ont.

On June 4, 2018, motorists driving in a rural area north of Montreal located the black Lemur named J.C. The animal was reunited with his Zoo family shortly thereafter.
