A ribbon cutting officially marked the grand opening of a new transit terminal in Collingwood.

The bus shelter and washroom facility is located on the corner of Pine and Second Street, and has been under construction since late spring. The 600-square-foot building cost about $480,000 in total. It is a fully-accessible building with vandal-resistant panels, industrial-grade facilities, and design characteristics to meet heritage district specifics.

“This is an important and much-needed facility,” said Mayor Sandra Cooper before cutting the ribbon.

A portion of the cost of the building was funded through Federal Gas Tax revenue.

The building includes a two washrooms, a water bottle refilling station, and a climate-controlled waiting area.

The building will be open 365-days-a-year during transit hours of operation, including the Wasaga/Blue Mountains link and Colltrans.

The washroom facility and terminal is a response to the local transit system’s growth recently with the Wasaga Beach and Blue Mountain links. The design and construction of the terminal was approved in the 2017 budget process. However, staff came back to council early this spring to increase the budget and for final approval of the plans.
