Local MPP Doug Downey was appointed attorney general in the Doug Ford government following a massive cabinet shuffle this morning at Queen's Park.

The Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte representative, who's an Orillia-based lawyer, is in his first term as MPP with the Progressive Conservatives, who came to power in last summer's provincial election.

York-Simcoe MPP Caroline Mulroney, who had held the attorney general's position, moves into the role of transportation minister as well as being responsible for francophone affairs.

Simcoe North MPP Jill Dunlop becomes Associate Minister of Children and Women's Issues.
