COVID-19: Here's the situation in Collingwood today

There remain no confirmed COVID-19 cases out of the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.

This morning’s (March 19) update from Ontario Public Health revealed 43 new COVID-19 confirmed cases in the province, however, 21 of those cases on the list had no location information included and therefore could not be traced to any specific region of the province.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit could not confirm if any of those 21 cases were from the local region, but did report there are 13 presumptive cases currently awaiting results in Simcoe County, and another four in Muskoka.

The most recent case confirmed yesterday came from Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, bringing the regional total to five confirmed cases. There are now 257 confirmed cases in Ontario.

A report from the Collingwood Salvation Army indicates the food bank is ‘overstocked’ and there to help anyone in need during the pandemic. Georgian Triangle Humane Society is also maintaining a pet food bank for the community with delivery service.

The County of Simcoe declared a state of emergency over the COVID-19 pandemic yesterday, affording the county more authority when it comes to building closures and recruiting volunteers if and when it is necessary.

In a morning press conference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the Canadian government was working to expedite access to COVID-19 test kits to keep up with increasing demands.

Canadian Blood Services and Prime Minister Trudeau said there’s still a need for blood donors and it is safe to donate. You can book online at Blood.ca or 1-888-236-6283.
