A familiar face has thrown her hat in the ring for the upcoming municipal election.

Current councillor Deb Doherty filed her papers at town hall on May 26, and will be running for the position of councillor for the 2022-26 term.

So far, current councillor Yvonne Hamlin was the first to file nomination papers (on May 2), and she's applied to run for mayor.

Chris Potts, a former public works operator who resigned last year, filed his papers at town hall on May 5, and was the first to declare he'll be running for one of seven councillor positions.

Eric Lapointe, a Barrie resident, is also registered to run for the local trustee spot on the french public school board (Conseil scolaire Viamonde). There's one person elected to represent Bruce, Grey, Simcoe, and Dufferin Counties.

Those wishing to run in the upcoming municipal election could submit their nomination forms starting May 2, and they will be accepted until August 19.

There is an online uncertified list of candidates kept updated by the town's clerk services staff.

The election will take place Oct. 24, 2022.
