There hasn’t been much movement on the Georgian Bay Biomed site on Mountain Road since April.

However, according to the company president, plans for the site are still on track.

“We put a slight delay on the project because we’re in the midst of a rather large joint venture with a Western Canadian company and we’re doing our due diligence to work along with them. This (has meant there’s been) a bit of a stall in the construction timeline,” said company President Tim Boosamra on Monday in an interview with CollingwoodToday.

Boosamra said he’s not yet in a position to commit to a new timeline on the project until the joint venture negotiations are completed.

In April, Boosamra said he expected the building on Mountain Road would be open by October. He also said the site would be fully licensed in 2020.

The 120,000 square-foot Georgian Bay Biomed site will produce medical-grade marijuana, and the website for the company advertises the use of automation and patented technology to produce a consistent product.

On Monday, Boosamra said none of the plans for the facility had changed, aside from the timeline.

“Everything is going extremely well. We’re financially sound. In terms of our original plans, nothing has changed,” he said.

Back in April, CollingwoodToday reported the town had the building permit ready for Biomed, but was waiting on about $1 million in charges and fees.

“They have not been paid; they’re still outstanding pending us needing them,” said Boosamra on Monday.

Boosamra said he would have more details on a timeline for the site within the next three weeks.

“Everything was on schedule. The timeline will be the same, it’s just been shifted forward,” he said.

The Collingwood site is located on Mountain Road near the Tenth Line intersection.

Georgian Bay Biomed’s website also advertises a second site called Georgian Pines, where the company is planning an 800,000 square-foot facility. Back in April, Boosamra wouldn’t confirm exactly where they were planning on building the second facility, however, he said they have first right of refusal on a parcel of land in and around the Collingwood area.
