Collingwood lights Campbell House with love at lighting ceremony

The new event brought together over a hundred employees, volunteers, and community members

The Lights of Love got a little bit brighter this year.

On a brisk but beautiful December evening, around a hundred people came out, candles in hand, for the first annual Campbell House lighting ceremony.

The new community event was inspired by the annual Memorial Celebration, and portrayed numerous twinkling lights dancing around the hospice and through the new Robert C. and Ricki Thompson Sanctuary Garden.

The group counted down together to bring the lights to life. A special heart filled with the names of generous donors was projected on the Campbell House. The Lights of Love List captures the spirit of the giving season and will remain visible throughout the holiday season.

“We recognize that not everybody celebrates in the same way, on the same day or for the same reasons at this time of year. But as we have been building our heart shaped lights of love list, we are happy to have all of you here with us tonight,” said Janet Fairbridge, foundation director of Hospice Georgian Triangle.

Shipyard Kitchen Party provided musical accompaniment to the colourful evening, and singled out Dr. Alyssa Boyd, Campbell House family physician and family care lead, to continue their tradition of ad-libbing a song dedicated to someone in the crowd.

“I’m thrilled with the turnout. We wanted to use this as a campaign to raise money for Hospice Georgian Triangle. We hope it will continue,” said Fairbridge.

Graham McFarlane addressed the crowd before the countdown. McFarlane’s wife, Mo, stayed at Campbell House earlier this year.

“If I should live forever, and all my dreams come true," said McFarlane, "my memories of love will be of you.”
