Collingwood town staff will be delivering a report to council next week on preparatory work being done in advance of the Collingwood Judicial Inquiry final report.
Acting CAO Sonya Skinner teased the upcoming report during a council meeting on Sept. 28, promising staff would bring information to the Strategic Initiatives Committee meeting on Oct. 7.
“It will cover as much of the prep work without knowing what the justice’s recommendations will be,” said Skinner.
Associate Chief Justice Frank Marrocco, the judge who led the Collingwood Judicial Inquiry, promised to deliver his report no later than Oct. 31.
Skinner said staff’s Oct. 7 report will include an update on the cost of the inquiry, as well as details on what the town has done to “strengthen the organization and increase transparency.”
She will also be making recommendations on how to communicate the results of the inquiry to interested parties, the public, and provincial bodies such as the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the Ontario government.
“It’s certainly very much at the top of mind for staff as we get into this very interesting period when the report will be released,” said Skinner.
The Collingwood Judicial Inquiry was ordered by Collingwood council in February 2018 to look into the sale of 50 per cent of the town’s utility (COLLUS) to PowerStream in 2012 and also to investigate the subsequent spending of the sale proceeds on two fabric membrane structures for town recreation facilities (Centennial Aquatic Centre and Central Park Arena).
