If you’re looking for a gift for the Collingwood lover on your Christmas shopping list, a local author might have just what you need.
George Czerny, a Collingwood-based author and photographer, is branching out into the board game business with his new venture, Collingwood...The Game! And it’s a limited edition.
“If you know somebody who used to live in Collingwood, it's a good thing to send them to remind them of home,” Czerny said in a news release.
The game is locally produced and printed through The Print Shop in Collingwood.
The board game boasts 35 spaces and featuring 11 photographs of Collingwood scenes. Players must answer a multiple-choice trivia question correctly before being allowed to roll the dice and move along the board. Question topics include Collingwood’s geography, history, businesses and landmarks.
Players are asked to use their own moving pieces.
“I realize that with this game I am swimming upstream against an electronic tide in an internet world,” said Czerny, describing himself as “so old-school that I don't have a website yet.”
Czerny and his wife, Nancy, consider Collingwood their adopted hometown. A retired newspaper publisher, Czerny is an author, photographer and historian who has published books that include The Collingwood Shipyards, George’s Georgian Bay, Our Changing Collingwood (a book of aerial photographs), and Kiss the Ground You Walk On, Canada!
“I hope as people play my game they will want to know more about their community and what makes it tick,” he said. “I hope that will encourage people to get more involved in their communities.”
The game costs $40, plus shipping if applicable, and is available for purchase only through Czerny via his email: [email protected]. He will deliver within a 15-kilometre radius of Collingwood.
