Boy in 'critical but stable' condition following incident at Barrie water park (6 photos)

Police seeking witnesses to determine exactly what happened to 12-year-old boy

A 12-year-old boy is in critical but stable condition at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto tonight after an incident at Barrie's Centennial Beach, Sunday evening.

Barrie police Const. Nicole Rodgers said the boy went into medical distress while on the inflatable water park along the city's waterfront.

"We responded to call we received at 5:15 p.m. about a 12-year-old boy who needed medical attention," Rodgers said.

"Fire services and paramedics were on the scene and the boy was rushed to Royal Victoria hospital where he was then taken to Sick Kids," she added, "and is reportedly in critical but stable condition, which we are all so thankful to hear that he has been stabilized."

The incident happened at a peak time for beach-goers and there were many people who may be able to assist police in the investigation.

"There were about 100 people on and around the floating park itself, and the beach was full of folks who may have saw something that could help us figure out just exactly what happened and when," Rodgers said. "We're asking anyone who saw anything or was involved in the rescue to please call us and talk.

"That is a crucial part now that the young boy is being taken care of."
