The Optimist Club of Collingwood and Southern Georgian Bay will be holding a bike sale and bottle drive on Aug. 7 and 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Representatives will be accepting beer, wine and liquor bottles at 30 Sandford Fleming Drive in Collingwood. A bike sale will also be taking place beside the bottle drive.
The event is a fundraiser for local youth projects. In the past, funds raised have been donated to programs such as high school bursaries, the DARE program, the YMCA, school music programs and parks.
The bikes are donations from the Ontario Provincial Police, who donate unclaimed bikes to the cause. Optimist club members repair the bikes as needed and sell them at a low cost. The prices vary depending on the condition of the bikes.
A second date is also being planned for late summer, which is still to be determined.
