Provincial police have charged a Newmarket woman following a nine-month investigation into the death of a 28-year-old pedestrian north of Barrie.
In the early hours of May 5, 2018, Springwater Township resident Dominik Adamek was walking near the intersection of County Road 53 (Wilson Drive) and Carson Road when he was struck by a vehicle whose driver failed to remain at the scene, according to police.
Investigators were confident that the driver would've been aware of the deadly impact. Led by Det. Insp. Paula Milne of the OPP's Criminal Investigation Branch, investigators identified the colour, make and approximate age of the involved vehicle and released that information to the public.
In October 2018, a $50,000 reward was offered for any new information to support the investigation.
On Jan. 30, 30-year-old Maimuna Baldeh was arrested and charged with failing to stop at scene of an accident causing death under the Criminal Code.
The accused is expected to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on March 12.
The OPP thanked the public for information provided during the investigation.
"By their very nature, fail to remain investigations are difficult to conclude successfully. I'm proud of our local members' dedication and collaboration with the OPP case manager to bring this charge forward and provide some resolution to the victim's family and our community," Huronia West OPP detachment commander Insp. Phillip Browne said in a news release.
