Under a black sky, a crowd gathered by the mouth of Collingwood's harbour for one more memorial service on Nov. 11.
This one a tribute to the end of the First World War, and a commemoration being marked around the world.
Town Crier Ken Templeman organized the local Battle's Over service, which included a reading of the 104 names listed on Collingwood's cenotaph, the local volunteers who didn't return home from war.
The service included Don Doner on trumpet performing the Last Post, Lorne Kenney reciting In Flanders Fields, Templeman read A Cry for Peace, and Master Piper Scott Buchannan of The Grey and Simcoe Foresters Regimental Pipe and Drum band performing Battle's O'er. At the end of the ceremony, the Collingwood Fire Department lit a signal fire, called the First World War Beacon of Light.
Church bells in town tolled 104 times, one for each name on the cenotaph.
