2 Collingwood residents among 51 new COVID cases in region since Friday

Eight people from Simcoe County and one person from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19, according to the health unit

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 51 new COVID-19 cases since Friday, Oct. 8.

Included in the new cases reported on Tuesday, Oct. 12 are 30 unvaccinated individuals, one partially vaccinated people, and 20 fully vaccinated people.

The new cases reported in the region today are as follows: 

  • Collingwood (2): Two people  between 45 and 64 years old. Both cases are still under investigation. 
  • Clearview (1): One person between65 and 79 years old whose case is still under investigation. 
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (1): One person between 45 and 64. The case is linked to close contact.
  • Barrie (18): Eight youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, four people between 45 and 64 years old, one person between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. Five cases are linked to close-contact transmission, one case is listed as community-acquired (no known link). The rest are still under investigation. 
  • Bradford (7): Five youth under 18 years old and two people between 35 and 44 years old.Three cases are from close contact while the remaining cases are still under investigation.
  • Innisfil (2): One person between the ages of 18 and 34 and one person between 35 and 44 years of age. Both cases are still under investigation.
  • Midland (1): One person between 45 and 64. The case is still under investigation. 
  • Orillia (4): Two youth under the age of 18 and two people between the ages of 35 and 44. One of the youth cases is outbreak-related. The remaining three cases are still under investigation. 
  • Oro Medonte (3): One person between 18 and 34, one person between 35 and 44 and one person between 45 and 64. All three cases are still under investigation. 
  • Springwater (2): One person between the ages of 18 and 34 and one between the ages of 45 and 64. One case in listed as having been community-acquired. The other is still under investigation. 
  • Tay (1): One person between the ages of 65 and 79. The case is under investigation.
  • Tiny (1): One person between the ages of 45 and 64. The case is under investigation. 

There are currently 158 active cases in the region. 

Eight people from Simcoe County, and one person from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 13,698 cases of COVID-19 with 13,278 of those cases recovered and 262 cases ending in death. 

According to the health unit, 70.9 per cent of the population living in Simcoe-Muskoka have received both doses of vaccine and 75.3 per cent have had at least one dose of a vaccine.

Anyone born in 2009 or earlier living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.
