The Grey Bruce Health Unit is reporting there are 17 area residents currently hospitalized because of COVID-19.

Two people are hospitalized outside of the region, and the other 15 are in Grey-Bruce hospitals. This number only includes people who were admitted because of COVID-19 and not those who were admitted for a different reason but still test positive.

Since Friday, the health unit has reported 177 new COVID cases caught with limited provincial testing. Of those, 50 have been confirmed in the last 24 hours.

There are 288 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region.

New and active case counts are, however, underestimated because most people are no longer eligible for a publicly-funded PCR test.

Since the start of the pandemic, the Grey Bruce Health Unit has confirmed 5,012 new COVID cases and reported 4,692 recoveries and 19 deaths.

There are 11 long-term care/retirement homes in the region currently in COVID outbreak, and an outbreak declared at the Owen Sound Hospital is now over.

As of today, 45 per cent of those who are eligible to receive three doses of COVID vaccine have had them, 31 per cent have had two doses, and 19 per cent of the eligible population remains unvaccinated.
