The Collingwood Downtown Business Improvement Area, in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63, is pleased to announce a very successful seventh year in the continuing veterans banner program – a project initiated in 2018 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
In 2024, fifteen more banners have been added, resulting in a donation of $1,500 to the local Legion’s poppy fund.
As in previous years, Collingwood Downtown assumed all production and installation costs of these banners. Family members, friends and businesses who would like to recognize a veteran purchase a banner by making a $100 donation the Legion’s poppy fund.
Installed on our light standards throughout Collingwood’s historic Downtown these banners commemorate Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made by our service men and women. The response to the program has been overwhelming, with a total of more than 140 veteran banners produced to date.
“This banner program is a conscientious effort to recognize the sacrifice made by many members of our community and the Collingwood Downtown BIA is so pleased to be able to support the local Poppy Fund by this continuing donation campaign, while allowing our community to shows its pride in family, military service and for some families, the ultimate sacrifice”, said Susan Nicholson, General Manager, Collingwood Downtown BIA.
The Collingwood Downtown Business Improvement Area is an organization of more than 600 businesses and property owners, which pay a special levy each year to assist in the beautification, maintenance, promotion and economic development of Collingwood’s downtown area.
