Terry Dowdall has represented Simcoe—Grey as its Member of Parliament since October 2019. He currently serves as the Deputy Shadow Minister for Small Business and Export Promotion, and as a member of the Standing Committee on National Defence.
Through these roles, he advocates for small business owners and Canadian Armed Forces members. As a small business owner himself and as the representative for Canadian Forces Base Borden, Terry is passionate about this work. He is a strong advocate for the mental health of our Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans, and their families and more improved infrastructure for our Forces. He has also been active connecting with small businesses in Simcoe—Grey and taking their concerns to Ottawa.
Besides his roles with small business and defence, Terry has also been a strong advocate in Parliament for those suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. Terry has participated in various events raising awareness, has met with constituents to discuss what they need help with most, and continues to press the government to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies and create access to life-saving CF medicines for Canadians living with the disease.
Terry has a longstanding reputation as an effective municipal leader, successful business owner and strong member of the community. He has 18 years of municipal experience, serving the Township of Essa in the roles of mayor, deputy mayor and councillor. He served as a Simcoe County councillor for 15 years, from 2003 to 2018. He was elected in 2014 and in 2016 as the County’s Deputy Warden. Additionally, he has served three terms on the board of directors for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, an organization voicing the concerns of municipalities nationally since 1901.
His meaningful and directly relevant public sector experience is complemented by his private sector background as a small business and commercial property owner. With his many levels of experience, Terry understands the importance of all levels of government working together. He is honored to represent the people of Simcoe—Grey in Ottawa
