Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed three new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County today (July 30).
One of the new cases is an Orillia woman between the ages of 45 and 64 years old, and her case is listed as community-acquired. She is currently hospitalized and is the only active case in Orillia. This is the second lab-confirmed case reported in Orillia for July.
There are two new cases in Bradford, one male and one female, both between the ages of 18 and 34. The transmission for their cases is reported as under investigation.
A case reported as under investigation yesterday in a New Tecumseth man is now listed as a workplace transmission. The health unit does not provide specific workplace details in order to protect the privacy of the people who have tested positive.
Medical officer of health for the region, Dr. Charles Gardner, said the health unit will only consider publicly releasing the name and location of a workplace where it is not possible through any other means to track close contacts of a case. He has said previously the health unit is most interested in co-workers as close contacts as they are spending extended periods of time in close proximity.
"We have been focusing on high-risk exposure situations," said Gardner, further explaining such a situation would be two or more people in a confined space within two metres of each other for 15 minutes or more, and without a mask while symptomatic.
"We've been concentrating on those because they're far more likely to yield another case," said Gardner. "We go public if we can't identify the individuals involved by any other means."
There were eight new recoveries reported today including three Barrie cases and one Orillia case.
