There are now 38 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed two new cases in the region, including one positive test result in a Barrie woman today.

The health unit reported two women in their 20s, one from Barrie and one from New Tecumseth, are the latest to test positive for the coronavirus in the region.

The Barrie woman’s case transmission is under investigation and the New Tecumseth woman’s case is related to close contact.

The health unit is also reporting an additional six recoveries, and two people who were previously hospitalized with COVID-19 have been discharged. The individuals previously hospitalized were from Bradford and Tay Township.

There are still six people hospitalized in the region.

Yesterday, the health unit reported zero new cases in Simcoe-Muskoka. It was the first day since March 26 without positive cases confirmed in the region.

Of the 482 total cases reported in Simcoe Muskoka by the health unit, 407 are now reported recovered and 36 people have died, leaving 38 active cases in Simcoe County and one active case (hospitalized) in Muskoka.

The incidence rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for Simcoe County is 87.8 cases per 100,000 people. The provincial average is 197.8 cases per 100,000 population.

The case breakdown by municipality, according to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, is as follows:

  • Barrie (156 total cases, 130 recoveries, 14 deaths)
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (100 total cases, 84 recoveries, 12 deaths)
  • New Tecumseth (51 total cases, 43 recoveries, two in hospital, one death)
  • Innisfil (38 total cases, 32 recoveries, two in hospital)
  • Orillia (17 total cases, 14 recoveries, two deaths, one in hospital)
  • Collingwood (15 total cases, all recovered)
  • Wasaga Beach (13 total cases, 12 recoveries, one death)
  • Clearview (seven total cases, six recoveries, one death)
  • Springwater (nine total cases, seven recoveries, one death)
  • Midland (six total cases, all recovered)
  • Oro-Medonte (six total cases, three recoveries, two deaths)
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (seven total cases, all recovered)
  • Essa (13 total cases, 10 recoveries, one death)
  • Ramara (seven total cases, all recovered)
  • Tiny (three total cases, all recovered)
  • Tay (five total cases, all recoveried)
  • Penetanguishene (four total cases, three recovered)
  • Severn (six total cases, three recovered)
