Seven new COVID-19 cases reported in Simcoe today

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) is reporting seven new cases of COVID-19 in the region today, including three residents at Collingwood Nursing Home which was reported by the home yesterday.

According to the health unit, the residents are all women, one in her 90s, one in her 80s, and one in her 100s. Collingwood Nursing Home officials confirmed yesterday these three residents had the only positive test results after all the residents and staff were tested at the 64-bed facility. The remainder of the tests have come back negative, according to the home.

Among the other cases listed is a woman in her 30s from Barrie and a man in his 60s from Penetaguishene both of whom work at a health care facility in outbreak.The transmission for their cases is listed as undetermined as the health unit could not determine whether they contracted the coronavirus at their work or in the community.

There is a new case in Orillia, a man in his 30s, who acquired the virus through community transmission. The health unit has removed a case it reported yesterday, an Orillia man in his 50s, from the case list. 

Finally, the health unit is reporting a confirmed positive test in a man in his 30s from Barrie. The transmission of this case is under investigation.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) has confirmed 406 cases of COVID-19 in the Simcoe-Muskoka region, including 263 recoveries and 32 deaths. There are nine residents from the region hospitalized.

The breakdown of cases in each municipality, according to SMDHU, is as follows:

Barrie (137 cases, 77 recoveries, 10 deaths, 1 in hospital), Bradford West Gwillimbury (88 cases, 62 recoveries, 12 deaths, 2 in hospital), New Tecumseth (33 cases, 21 recoveries, 2 in hospital, one death), Orillia (16 cases, 12 recoveries, 2 deaths), Collingwood (15 cases, 9 recoveries, 1 in hospital), Innisfil (29 cases, 19 recoveries), Springwater (8 cases, 5 recoveries, 1 death), Midland (6 cases, all recovered), Wasaga Beach (11 cases, 7 recoveries, 1 death), Oro-Medonte (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 2 deaths, 1 in hospital), Adjala-Tosorontio (7 cases, all recovered), Clearview (7 cases, 5 recoveries, one death), Essa (8 cases, 7 recoveries, 1 death), Ramara (5 cases, 2 recoveries), Tiny (3 cases, 2 recoveries), Tay (3 cases, 1 in hospital), Penetanguishene (3 cases, 2 recoveries), and Severn (3 cases, 1 recovered) for a total of 387 cases in Simcoe County, including 247 recoveries and eight hospitalizations.

There are also 19 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka, and 16 have recovered, one person from Muskoka Lakes has died.

The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 67.7 cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 147.5 cases per 100,000 population.
