The province's declaration of an emergency earlier this week also comes with emergency orders. The latest is a moratorium on residential evictions for the duration of the stay-at-home order.

The order also protects homeowners who are facing evictions due to court orders for possession of their property.

This is the second such ban from the province in under a year.

"We want to remind tenants who can pay their rent that they must continue to do so, to the best of their abilities," said the province's minister of municipal affairs and housing, Steve Clark, in a press release.

The province is still allowing the Landlord and Tenant Board to hear eviction applications and issue orders, but the enforcement of eviction orders will be postponed while the emergency declaration is in place.

In urgent situations, such as for illegal activity, an eviction order can be enforced, reports the province.
