Health unit confirms new COVID-19 case in Collingwood man

The local health unit has confirmed a COVID-19 outbreak at Collingwood Nursing Home.

The home has confirmed three residents have tested positive for the coronavirus and are being isolated.

There is one Collingwood man in his 70s on today’s list of new confirmed COVID-19 cases whose transmission source is listed as under investigation. 

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has been working with other health agencies to test residents and staff at all long-term care facilities. Testing was completed at Collingwood Nursing Home.

The health unit also announced the death of a Barrie resident, a woman in her 80s who was a resident at Owen Hill Care Community. She died on May 12. She is the seventh resident to die at the facility with COVID-19 and the 10th Barrie resident to die of the coronavirus.

SMDHU is reporting 14 new COVID-19 cases again today, including five staff members working at long-term care facilities in outbreak. There’s one man in his 40s from Tiny Township, three women from Barrie (two in their 50s and one in her 20s), and a woman in her 50s from Springwater. Four of the staff work at Owen Hill Care Community and one staff works at Bayview Retirement Home (Waubaushene).

An Orillia man in his 50s has tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first case reported in Orillia since May 4. The source of his transmission is listed under investigation.

Other positive cases announced today include a Barrie woman in her 20s, a Springwater man in his 50s, an Innisfil man in his 20s, a Barrie boy between the age of 10 and 19, and a Bracebridge man in his 60s. All are cases of community transmission.

There are also two new close contact cases, a woman in her 60s from Essa and a man in his 20s from New Tecumseth.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 401 cases of COVID-19 in the Simcoe-Muskoka region, including 258 recoveries and 32 deaths. There are ten residents from the region hospitalized.

The breakdown of cases in each municipality is as follows:

Barrie (136 cases, 77 recoveries, 10 deaths, 1 in hospital), Bradford West Gwillimbury (88 cases, 61 recoveries, 12 deaths, 2 in hospital), New Tecumseth (33 cases, 21 recoveries, 2 in hospital, one death), Orillia (16 cases, 12 recoveries, 2 deaths), Collingwood (12 cases, 8 recoveries, 2 in hospital), Innisfil (29 cases, 19 recoveries), Springwater (8 cases, 5 recoveries, 1 death), Midland (6 cases, all recovered), Wasaga Beach (11 cases, 7 recoveries, 1 death), Oro-Medonte (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 2 deaths, 1 in hospital), Adjala-Tosorontio (7 cases, all recovered), Clearview (7 cases, 5 recoveries, one death), Essa (8 cases, 5 recoveries, 1 death), Ramara (5 cases, 2 recoveries), Tiny (4 cases, 2 recoveries), Tay (3 cases, 1 in hospital), Penetanguishene (2 cases, all recovered), and Severn (3 cases, 1 recovered) for a total of 382 cases in Simcoe County, including 242 recoveries and 9 hospitalizations.

There are also 19 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka, and 16 have recovered, one person from Muskoka Lakes has died.

The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 66.4 cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 144.6 cases per 100,000 population.
