The County of Grey announced every eligible resident of their Markdale Grey Gables long-term care facility has now been given the first dose of the Moderna vaccine against COVID-19.

The inoculations took place this weekend, Feb. 6 and 7, for all 67 residents who consented.

Grey Bruce Public Health led vaccination clinics at both Grey Gables and Lee Manor (Owen Sound).

The Moderna vaccine is designed to be given in two doses about 28 days apart.

The health unit announced last week it was expecting to receive 700 Moderna vaccines during the week of Feb. 1. The health unit is also expecting 7,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines by the end of the month.

These vaccine shipments will be used to:

  • Complete the initial doses to all residents of long-term care homes
  • Vaccinate long-term care staff and essential caregivers as well as 2nd dose for some long-term care residents.
  • Vaccinate hospital staff
  • As supply permits, first doses will also be administered to retirement home residents and staff
  • Vaccinate Saugeen First Nation and Chippewa of Nawash residents
