Grey Bruce Health Unit reports second COVID death

A woman in her 70s died this afternoon after being hospitalized with COVID-19

The Grey Bruce Health Unit announced the death of a woman who was hospitalized with COVID-19 today. 

Hers is the second death reported by the health unit since the start of the pandemic. 

"I offer my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the woman who passed away," said Grey Bruce medical officer of health Dr. Ian Arra. "Unfortunately, this news ... only highlights the need for everyone to take this virus very seriously ... please stay at home and stay safe." 

According to the health unit the woman was isolated at a hospital. 

There were no COVID related deaths in Grey Bruce in 2020. The health unit reported its first death on Jan. 30, 2021 – a man in his 60s who had been hospitalized.

The health unit has reported a total of 697 cases. There are currently 15 active lab-confirmed cases in the region.
