COVID-19: Here's the situation in Collingwood today

Ontario Health has reported another 408 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 this morning, bringing the province’s total to 4,038.

The province is also reporting outbreaks at 44 Ontario long-term care homes, yesterday there were 36. So far there is at least long-term care home outbreak in Simcoe County at Spencer House in Orillia. Where one employee tested positive for the virus, and test results are pending on two residents who have died, another two still living at the facility, and 10 staff members. Another eight staff members are potential cases and are self-isolating.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit does not provide COVID-19 case updates on the weekend, so the next update will be tomorrow afternoon (April 5).

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reminded the public in his address today that the online application process for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit begins Monday, April 6.

The prime minister also announced a call for volunteers from Health Canada in an effort to establish a national database of volunteers for case tracking and contact tracing, health system surge capacity, and case data collection.

A local tutor with experience as an educator has provided this candid advice and a list of tried and tested resources for parents who are now homeschooling their children.

Collingwood-based tech company AdBank Network is applying its skills to the COVID-19 pandemic by creating an app that will track out-of-stock items on Amazon and send you a text message when they’re restocked.

The company will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital Foundation.

The annual pond skim event at Blue Mountain Resort will continue, but will follow the provincial mandate to stay at home. You can still help raise funds for the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital by donning ski gear, and dousing yourself in water. Different means, same result as a pond skim.
