A local creator has an idea to bring colour to Collingwood during pandemic times, but with some assembly required.

Judy Kusoglu of Collingwood Web Design has been designing colouring sheets featuring Collingwood scenes and posting them to the web for people to download, colour, and share.

The colouring sheets feature local landmarks, people and pets from Kusoglu’s life, and always a rainbow.

“We wanted to find a way to give back to the community, put a smile on people’s faces and help fill in long hours during lockdown,” said John Warren co-owner of Collingwood Web Design. “It was important for us to keep this local, so we have included Collingwood landmarks such as the terminals, Nottawasaga Lighthouse, and the Inukshuk at Sunset Point Park. We want people to know these pages have been created just for them.”

Kusoglu is the “creative force” behind Collingwood web design and has been doing the artwork for the colouring sheets. One of the pages features her and Warren’s new puppy Skye. Each design includes a rainbow.

“We have included a rainbow in each page as a symbol of optimism during the COVID-19 lockdown,” said Warren. “That is our message: things will get better.”

The colouring sheets have been picked up by kids and adults alike.

Since starting the project, Collingwood Web Design has also put a call out to local businesses, providing them the opportunity to be featured on a colouring page.

Warren said as small business owners, he and Kusoglu understand the difficulty facing businesses right now. He said the colouring sheet initiative is their way of saying “we’re in this together.”

The project was designed to support and remind locals of Collingwood’s hope and beauty, he said it’s also gone international.

“We’ve had people with Collingwood connections print these out and colour them as a family in Italy, USA, Switzerland and the UK,” he said. “That is very special and warms our hearts.”

If you’d like to see the pages, visit Collingwood Web Design’s website. To have a local business, charity, or group included on a colouring sheet, email John Warren. There is a waitlist right now.

If colouring isn’t your jam, Warren has also created a website called coronahair.ca. There, you can upload a photo of yourself with a haircut you’ve given yourself while isolating at home during the pandemic, and you could win a gift card to a local business.
