Collingwood’s COVID-19 assessment centre continues to see an increase in daily testing numbers, in part because of universal testing of staff and residents at all long-term care homes.

This week the assessment centre completed 66 tests on May 11, 83 on May 12, 144 on May 13, and 133 on May 14.

The assessment centre is being run by the Georgian Bay Family Health Team at the Erie Street medical clinic building. Long-term care testing is being done by teams of health professionals on-site at the nursing homes in town. All other assessments are being done in a drive-thru tent outside the building, which is located at 186 Erie Street.

The COVID-19 Assessment Centre in Collingwood will be open as usual from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the whole May long-weekend (including the holiday Monday).

Tests are available by appointment, and those wishing to be tested can self-refer, or be referred by their family physician. The assessment centre is only testing people who have at least one symptom of COVID-19. You can find an online self-assessment here.

To book an appointment, you can add your name to the online list here, or you can call 705-444-5885 to speak to a member of the Georgian Bay Family Health Team. The online appointment waitlist can be accessed up to 7:30 p.m. seven days per week.

Those without vehicles can still be tested by walking up to the tent. A chair will be provided for you.

Previously, the family health team’s executive director Marie LaRose, said there is more capacity available at the assessment centre and there are staff standing by should they be needed for an influx of test appointments.
