An Ontario bio-tech company is offering its soon-to-be-approved proof-of-vaccination app to both the provincial and federal governments free of charge.

Vector Health Labs specializes in private COVID-19 testing for individuals and corporations however it says it's also developed a new app which it says should be ready for download within a few weeks.

"Essentially, what it does, is it gives you a digital way to store your vaccine certificate credentials," said Asif Khan, Chief Technical Officer, Vector Health Labs and chief architect of the Canatrace Perimeter app. "You can either upload those directly from your paper copy by scanning them in or you can go to the government website and download them that way."

Khan says the app will also be able to store more than just vaccination information.

"Many employers are now saying it's either you're vaccinated or you're getting tested regularly so you also need a way to store those test results, said Khan. "So this Canatrace Perimeter app supports storing both vaccine credentials and test results."

He says there are issues with the current system in place in Ontario which is to simply rely on the print-out you get after each dose, especially at larger venues like sports arenas.

"What they certainly don't want is bottlenecks of thousands of people lined up and having to check paper certificates," Khan said. "What they'd rather do is have a quick, simple, digital way to look and say 'check mark', 'X', with a validated credential there to say yes this person has their vaccine or here's their latest test results and to view that in a digital way to speed up that entry process."

As for whether it expects any levels of government to begin using it when it becomes available, Khan says talks continue.
