Collingwood councillor Bob Madigan has declared his intention to run for deputy mayor in the 2022 municipal election.

Madigan has served two four-year terms as a councillor, first elected in 2014. He was born and raised in Collingwood.

He is the first person on the deputy mayor candidate's list, and the fourth current member of council to declare their candidacy for the 2022 election. Madigan filed his application with the clerk's office on July 5.

Also on the unofficial candidate's list are current councillors Yvonne Hamlin and Mariane McLeod running for mayor, and Councillor Deb Doherty running for councillor.

Former councillor Norm Sandberg will run for mayor, and former town staffer Chris Potts is running for one of seven councillor's seats.

Nominations for municipal election candidates opened May 2, and will close Aug. 19.

There is an online uncertified list of candidates kept updated by the town's clerk services staff.

There is one upcoming candidate information session, held jointly with area municipalities, to allow those interested in running for municipal office to find out more about the process and requirements.
