The expansion of the Thornbury Wastewater Treatment Plant is ready to begin.

The Town of The Blue Mountains has announced that ARCADIS/IBI Group has completed the design and engineering for the sewage plant project.

The job has been tendered and the contract has been awarded to North America Construction (1993) Ltd. Mobilization for construction is anticipated to begin in July of 2023. Construction activity will be occurring onsite at 1 Grey Street South in Thornbury.

The project scope consists of:

  • Construction of new return activated sludge/waste activated sludge building
  • Construction of one new extended aeration tank, including aeration system, required accessories and alum addition
  • Construction of one new clarifier and associated mechanical system
  • Extension of existing ultraviolet disinfection building, including the installation of ultraviolet disinfection equipment to meet 5,330 cubic metres per day
  • Construction of new extended access road
  • Replacement of existing air blowers, including required valves, controls, instrumentation and distribution piping
  • Installation of additional mechanical screen and associated hardware

The work will take place on the town’s property. Impacts to nearby residents are expected to be minimal, however area residents may experience additional noise related to construction activity. Those with concerns during construction should contact the site inspector.
