After a long and beautiful life, Vi passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2024 at Sunset Manor, Collingwood, formerly of Maxwell in her 102nd year. She is reunited with her beloved husbands; Arthur Wright and Joseph Rawlings. Loving mother of Wayne(Debbie) Wright of Maxwell and Sharon Harrison(Rob Damude) of Collingwood. Cherished grandmother of Rob(Kerrie) Harrison of Dundalk, April(Shane) Bendell of Nova Scotia, Mark(Jocelyn) Harrison of Creemore, Arthur(Kim) Wright of Wyville and Christine(the late John) Cowan of Aurora. Proud great grandmother of Grayden and Annette Harrison, Hailey and Jessie Bendell, Caleb, Hannah, Olivia, and Eden Harrison, Cam and Ben Cowan. Loved and remembered by her great great grandson Arkin. Fondly remembered by Jennifer Harrison. Vi is predeceased by her sisters Reta Alsey and Millie Rawlings. She is the last surviving member of the Wright, Rawlings and Duckett families of her generation.

Vi was born July 6, 1922 to Levi and May Duckett in Osprey Township. She attended S.S. #9, Maxwell, followed by school in Feversham until her mother got ill and she went back home to care for her. She later gained employment at a chocolate factory in Toronto. Upon her return home to Osprey, she met and married her love Art Wright in 1944. They started their family, and after a couple moves, settled into their home in Maxwell. They were active member of Maxwell United Church, where she was on the U.C.W, an member of the Maxwell Women’s Institute and helped in the efforts to both build the Maxwell Hall and get the bowling alley going. After the sudden loss of her husband, she did her best to care for her children and home. She later married her next love, Joe Rawlings, and together continued to raise her family and stay active in the community. Vi lived a life devoted to her community and her church, always giving all of herself. Many people may remember reading Vi’s column in the Flesherton Advance/Dundalk Herald for over 50 years. In 2021, Vi sadly, at the age of 99, could no longer live in her home anymore and she moved to Sunset Manor. Her presence in Maxwell will continue to be greatly missed.

A heartfelt thank-you to the staff of Sunset Manor for all of their care and kindness with Granny.

The family will receive friends at Fawcett Funeral Cremation Reception, Flesherton on Sunday, April 28 from 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral service on Monday at 11:00am. Interment at Maxwell Cemetery with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Centre Grey Health Services Foundation, Markdale, would be greatly appreciated.
