Celestial spectacle eclipsed by cloud cover in Collingwood

An overcast sky blocked out the solar eclipse for viewers in Collingwood, but that didn't stop small crowds from trying to catch a peak

The sun proved a bit bashful for its big day in Collingwood as it hid behind dark grey clouds all morning and afternoon, preventing locals from seeing the solar eclipse on April 8.

While several cities in the United States and a few in Canada were shrouded in darkness around 3 p.m. this afternoon, Collingwood's skies got slightly darker grey and the sun stayed out of sight.

That didn't stop a few dozen people from venturing to Millennium Park to this afternoon with their eclipse glasses in case there was a parting of the clouds.

Collingwood was not along the "path of totality" and so was not going to get complete darkness during the eclipse, only a partial eclipse took place over Collingwood at about 3:20 p.m. today.

Enjoy these photos from Millennium Park and town hall this afternoon, during this "once in a lifetime" event.
